Welcome to Advocate U, an online university created to inspire, educate, and give you the resources you need to be a leader in the fight against global poverty. We’re so glad you’re here!
So, you’ve decided to make change happen by taking action with CARE! You’ve joined 270,000 other CARE Action Network advocates who represent a wide range of backgrounds, levels of experience and perspectives -- but a common passion to eradicate poverty and improve the lives of girls, women and communities who currently live in poverty. CARE Action is a sister organization of CARE that supports effective citizen-based advocacy and lobbying efforts.
It’s a powerful force that has the potential to influence and change U.S. policy.
Care Action supports new and seasoned advocates to be the most effective lobbyists they can be. That’s what Advocate U is about. It’s a comprehensive guide for building citizen advocacy skills, expanding your influence and making change happen in a big way.
Citizen advocacy is an essential part of CARE’s multi-pronged advocacy strategy. We depend on committed, dedicated advocates like you to have important conversations with members of Congress, community members and other advocates. We count on our citizen advocates to help educate, inform and influence policy makers and the people who have the power to support CARE’s priority issues.
When combined with CARE’s 70 years of experience, its longstanding government relationships and immersive learning tour programs, CARE and CARE Action are powerful. Together, we’re advocating for lifesaving legislative initiatives and foreign assistance policies and funding that support programs to empower women and girls, foster strong, resilient communities, eradicate poverty and increase humanitarian assistance.
With more than 890 projects operating in 95 countries, CARE reaches more than 65 million people who need our help every year. We couldn’t do any of that without powerful citizen advocacy and the CARE Action Network.
Whether you’re coming to Advocate U as a long-time CARE advocate or a new supporter looking to get involved, there are resources here to support your advocacy journey with CARE. On these pages you’ll find everything from issue briefs on CARE’s advocacy campaigns, step-by-step guides for reaching out to your Member of Congress, tips on building a strong delegation of CARE supporters, sample op-eds, templates for organizing CARE events, moving stories of CARE advocacy in action, and so much more.
