Take Action Tuesday: Here’s What You Can Do Right Now

3/7/17

All hands on deck for the foreign affairs budget and refugees!

It seems like not a day goes by here in America without another shoe dropping.  Last week, it was news reports about possible budget plans to cut 37 percent of funding for U.S. foreign assistance and rumors we’ll soon see a new Executive Order banning immigrants and refugees from certain countries from traveling to the United States.  Both have the potential to drastically impact the people CARE is working with in the poorest countries. Both will increase global instability and decrease national security. And both misrepresent American values.  We need all hands on deck right now to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Congress must hear our message loud and clear: American security, interests and values must be represented through a healthy foreign affairs budget.   Here’s what you can do today if you have:

5 minutes:  Sign our newest petition and tell Congress today: Don't put life-saving aid on the chopping block. Then share it on Facebook.

15 minutes:  Send this letter to the editor  to your local newspaper, alternative weekly or news website.  Make sure you fill in your Senator or Representative’s name in that last paragraph.

1 hour:  Download the latest episode of the CARE Action podcast where we talk with Salam Kanaan, Country Director for CARE Jordan about what it’s like in Jordan right now and about the refugees and humanitarians who’ll be deeply impacted by President Trump’s plans.  Then, share it on social media and keep this conversation going.

If you’re ready to take your advocacy to the next level, join us in Washington DC May 22 – 24 for CARE’s National Conference. We’ll train you to advocate for girls and women in the poorest countries and bring you with us to Capitol Hill to speak with your Members of Congress and/or their staff about the issues that matter to all of us.  It’s a life-changing experience you don’t want to miss.
