Time To Reach!

It’s Take Action Tuesday and time to Reach! The Reach Every Mother and Child Act of 2017 (S.1730) was re-introduced on Wednesday by several of our strongest champions on Capitol Hill.  Last year the bill received strong bipartisan support in the Senate – with 22 Democrats and 13 Republicans.  We hope it will receive strong bi-partisan support again this year.

Your voice is needed to keep up the drumbeat – that the U.S. should commit to ending preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths within a generation. Women’s health and women’s lives are too important to put on the backburner. We need to persist!

More than 800 women and girls and 16,000 children die every day from entirely preventable pregnancy-related conditions, including malaria and pneumonia. It doesn’t have to be that way, especially if women can access the healthcare information, services and products they need to stay safe and healthy. Helping women time and space their pregnancies and providing mothers and babies with adequate vitamins, nutrition and vaccinations are simple steps that can save countless lives around the world. In addition, when women can control if or when they’ll become pregnant, how many children they’ll have and how closely their pregnancies are spaced, their health and the health of their children improves dramatically.

We’ve seen the impact healthcare has on women’s lives, children’s health and community prosperity and we know it works. What’s more, 225 million women in the world who currently lack access to the tools they need to time and space their pregnancies, tell us they want them. That’s why we persist!

The Reach Every Mother and Child Act of 2017 (S.1730) is a bipartisan bill that’s receiving tremendous support on both sides of the aisle. Introduced by Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), the Reach Act puts the end of preventable maternal and child deaths within our reach within one generation!  It prioritizes evidence-based interventions and makes current programs more efficient.

We need your help to make sure that the Reach Act sees strong bipartisan support again this Congress.  Are you with us? Here’s what you can do today if you have:
