Election Results: All CARE Action-Supported Candidates Win Congressional Races

WASHINGTON—CARE Action, the 501(c)(4) advocacy arm of the global humanitarian and development organization CARE, congratulates all ten congressional candidates from both sides of the aisle it supported with digital ads who won their races yesterday. These candidates have a proven track record of fighting for strong US foreign assistance programs.

David Ray, CARE USA VP of Policy and Advocacy, said:

“We sincerely congratulate these champions of vital, life-saving programs around the world. This was the first time in CARE’s 70-year history that one of its affiliate groups backed candidates for political office in the United States. It was also an unprecedented move among major humanitarian and development organizations.

But extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures. We took this step because the United States’ historic bipartisan legacy as a global leader in humanitarian and development programs is under threat.

In fact, we’re excited to welcome all the new and returning members of Congress and look forward to their support for international and humanitarian aid programs. When America invests in programs that save lives around the world, we live up to our values here at home.

And when America invests in fighting poverty, eradicating diseases, and empowering women and girls, we all benefit from a safer, more just, and more prosperous world.”

The bipartisan list of candidates backed by CARE Action included:

  • Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA)
  • Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN)
  • Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY)
  • Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX)
  • Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA)
  • Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY)
  • Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN)
  • Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY)
  • Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MN)
  • Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT)
